  1. I love working progress shots, do you have a plan or really winging it? I have to get busy myself, glassblowers I’ve been working with soon move on to NZ so I’d better carve these graal balls.(political?) I did have a laugh over the movement. Haven’t had one like that since early last year. Cancer op. took a lot out of me, including my “ring of confidence” so it’s OK to laugh about it now.

    • Winging it was really just a play on words – Ginger’s making parts for the butterfly wings for her next Papillon piece. She does extremely precise drawings for all the sections, so, no, not winging it as such.

      Is Phil moving to NZ, or have you been working with other gaffers?

      Nappies would help with the laughing situation, Pete. We girlies know about such things. (Don’t mean to make light of a fraught and serious medical scenario – but sometimes (even dark) humour is the best medicine…or so I’m told…)

  2. I though it was a glass piece coming up .
    Yes Phil is moving to NZ in a few months, his husband is a NZ’er and it’s tough in glass in Melb. I’ll finish these graal and hope I have the money to get them blown before he goes. Next maybe kiln work but I’m unsure about wiring the kiln or moving first. No new director at Morwell (no surprise) and the Gipps Uni art dept was closing but Tony Hanning is having a go at turning it round. Including talking to Nick Mount about including some glass in the curric.. I dont hold my breath.
    Sense of humor is a great survival trait and I reach old age pension next month so there’s a lot of WTF. which comes in handy when you’re outside the art and glass world anyway.

    • My waxes will be glass/crystal – they’re the oyster shells, which’ll be a bread’n’butter production line (at $1500 a half doz.) Goes with the coastal terroir; perfect with a Rocky Hall Verdelho.

      Gosh, well Phil’s move really is Melbourne’s loss. But yeah, sustainability is a perennial trial, particularly when you have overhanging rentals. Eek.

      Thank goodness for Tony, eh. At least there’s somebody with serious cred willing to give things a shake.

      Auguri on reaching pension age – Studio Bitch made the grade in May. It (the age) is fantastically liberating – like, WTF on steroids. A very healthy attitude to have. And, you know Pete, there’s no such thing as outside the art and glass world. That’s all just smoke and mirror wankery put about by many in the Arrgh-ts establishment to prop up their often absurdly inflated sense of self-importance and entitlement. Out of touch in the main – fossilised relics (to borrow that wondrous term from Luca Belgiorno-Nettis.) And endlessly reinforced by the unctuous brown nose brigade (Uriah Heep-o-rama, even.)

      Take no notice of the buggers…

      Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
      Or close the wall up with our English dead.
      In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man
      As modest stillness and humility:
      But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
      Then imitate the action of the tiger;
      Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
      Disguise fair nature with hard-favour’d rage;
      Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
      Let pry through the portage of the head
      Like the brass cannon;

      …I’m game.
